Holiday Safety

October 6, 2017 By //  by cnpadmin

Holiday Safety

Many of us have already begun thinking about the holidays. There are parties to plan, decorations to hang and menus to prepare. With everything going on, you might not have considered how the holidays can affect your pets.

This time of year can be extremely stressful to pets. There are a number of unique challenges that come with the holidays. It’s up to you to keep your pets happy and healthy.

Halloween

People dressed in costumes ringing your doorbell all night can upset even the most docile pet. It’s a good idea to keep your pets locked in a dark, quiet room until the evening fun has ended.

Keep in mind that chocolate is toxic to pets and too much sugar can lead to upset stomach or worse. Keep candy bowls out of reach of pets at all times, and make sure you instruct guests and children to never feed candy to your pets.

Holiday Meals

Many foods traditionally prepared during the holiday season are deadly to pets. Fatty foods can cause life-threatening pancreatitis and onions and garlic are toxic. In addition to these dangers, bones can splinter and cause damage to your pet’s digestive tract. Always let your guests know that your pets are not allowed to eat table scraps.

In order to avoid temptation or your pet consuming dropped food, it might be best to keep pets away from the table during holiday meals.

Holiday Guests

It’s important to understand how your pet feels about strangers in your home. While some pets relish in the attention, others can become fearful and aggressive with guests.

It’s up to you to let your guests know the proper way to treat your pets. This is especially true if children will be staying with you over the holidays.

Consider Boarding Your Pet

The best way to avoid stress and danger for your pet over the holiday season is to make sure they are in a safe, controlled environment. Consider boarding your pet on the days you feel might pose the biggest problem.

Claws N Paws Day Spa offers high quality holiday grooming and cats only boarding. Please call 714-962-1005 for more information or to schedule a grooming appointment.

Orange County Cat Grooming you Can Trust

September 30, 2016 By //  by cnpadmin

Orange County Cat Grooming you Can TrustService with a smile!

Not many places in Orange County offer cat grooming. Occasionally a grooming shop will accept cats, but they attempt to treat them as if they were dogs. The problem with this approach is that cats require a much different grooming experience. For example, cats cannot be tethered, most dog shampoos are not safe for them, they are slow to trust and they become easily stressed. A cat that is stressed is more likely to hurt itself and those around it. Cats can also suffer from a variety of stress-related health issues.

The owner of Claws N Paws Day Spa has a long history with cats. She began rescuing stray cats and kittens as a child. As an adult, she has continued to rescue and rehabilitate cats and kittens. She received her grooming certification in 1997 and became a highly respected groomer in Orange County. However, she was unhappy working for a corporate retail store. This is because large, corporate shops tend to focus on their bottom line while small, independent grooming shops put more emphasis on the care of their clients. In April, 2001 she opened Claws N Paws Day Spa with a commitment to treat each pet individually in order to reduce stress and make the grooming process as comfortable as possible. That’s what we mean when we say “Grooming with a Loving Touch.”

A few years later, she opened Claws N Paws Cat Boarding next door. This facility offers stress-free boarding for cats. Individual rooms are specially designed for one or multiple cats. Dogs are never allowed in the boarding facility, making it a quiet, comfortable place for cats to relax while their pet parents are unable to be home. Food, water, exercise and human interaction is provided daily to ensure the mental and physical health of all of our feline guests. For more information about our cat only boarding, please click here.

Claws N Paws Day Spa also has many rescued cats and kittens looking for their forever home. Many available kittens have been bottle-fed and all pets for adoption are socialized. Younger kittens have received their first set of shots and older cats and kittens are spayed and neutered. These are different than any cat or kitten you will find at a pet shop. We understand cats and love each one like they were our own. To see our cats and kittens available for adoption, please click here.

Our commitment to cats is what sets us apart from other grooming shops. We have many happy and healthy feline clients. We know what cats need and we always treat them with the respect and specialized care that they deserve.

Please stop by and see why Orange County trusts us with their cats. For more information, or to schedule a grooming appointment, please call 714-962-1005.

Tips for Boarding Your Cat

March 25, 2016 By //  by cnpadmin

Tips for Boarding Your Catcat boarding

At some point you will most likely need to leave your cat behind as you venture away for business or pleasure. While a well-meaning friend or neighbor might be willing to watch your beloved pet for you, they might not understand his or her needs as well as a professional will. Leaving your cat at a professional cat boarding facility can help ease the pain of separation for both you and your cat.

Before leaving your cat at a boarding facility you will want to make sure that it fits your pet’s needs. The following tips will help you determine if the boarding facility is right for your cat.

  1. A professional cat boarding facility should be clean with good ventilation. An overwhelming smell of pet waste or chemicals should always be a warning sign.
  2. The facility should offer sufficient space for your feline friend.
  3. The facility should offer some privacy for pets.
  4. Cats in the facility should be relatively quiet.
  5. The facility should have an exercise space for cats. They should offer some time for cats to move and play every day.
  6. There should be ample security so that cats can’t escape.
  7. The facility should require proof of current vaccinations.
  8. The boarding facility staff should be friendly, knowledgeable and loving towards the pets in their care.

When visiting a cat boarding facility consider asking the following questions:

  1. Are bedding and food provided? What about cats with special dietary requirements?
  2. When is playtime/feeding time/housekeeping?
  3. What if my cat becomes injured or ill during their stay?
  4. Can my cat stay a few extra days if necessary?
  5. What are the boarding fees?

Once you have selected a boarding facility for your cat you will want to make sure that you leave sufficient contact information for both yourself and your veterinarian. If you will be unable to return home quickly, make sure that you also leave emergency contact information for a trusted individual.

Located right next door to Claws N Paws Day Spa, Claws and Paws Cat Boarding provides a luxurious, stress-free and safe environment for your cat’s away from home stays! When your feline friend needs a place to stay, you can be confident in knowing that we will provide them with the care and individual attention that they need. We intentionally do not board dogs in order to keep a quiet, stress-free environment for our feline visitors. We strive to make the feline members of your family feel safe and secure with all of the comforts of home.

Cat Boarding

December 4, 2015 By //  by cnpadmin

Cat Boardingcat boarding

While you might enjoy traveling, your feline companion probably does not. This is why planning your holiday vacation must also include proper preparations for your pet. Cat boarding can be an excellent solution, but you must choose the right boarding facility if you want to minimize your pets stress during your absence.

Visiting a boarding facility can be a stressful experience for the family cat, especially if they are timid or older. It’s important to visit the facility before you even consider leaving your pet. Keep in mind that certain situations will make your cat’s experience more stressful. These include small cages and kennels that have absolutely no hiding places or elevated cat trees or shelves. Also, the facility should look and smell clean.

Consider preparing a list of questions for the cat boarding facility. You will want to find out if the staff will interact with your cat during its stay. Ask them if they require proof of vaccinations. If they do not require proof, your cat could come into contact with a cat that is ill or unvaccinated during its stay. If your cat takes medication, make sure that the facility is prepared to administer it. If your cat requires a special food or litter, check that you can bring it to the facility. You will also want to speak with your veterinarian before boarding your cat. There might be special vaccinations or pest control that is recommended before boarding. Also, your vet might be able to give you tips about reducing stress during your pets stay.

Remember that your cat will probably be more comfortable if it has some of its own things when it arrives for boarding. This might be a special bed or blanket. Familiar objects with the smell of home might help your cat relax a little bit. It’s also a good idea to bring along some of your cats own toys. Even if your cat doesn’t play with them, their presence might be a comfort in your absence. If your cat eats a special food or uses a special litter, make sure to bring them along as well.
