Items to Sell – And Not to Sell – At a Consignment Shop

Items to Sell – And Not to Sell – At a Consignment Shop

One easy way to make a little extra money is to sell your gently used items through a consignment store. Selling through consignment is much safer than selling through classified ads or through websites like Craigslist. With consignment you do not need to provide your email address and strangers never need to visit to your home. Additionally, the consignment shop handles all of the marketing for you.

Before you begin gathering your items to take to your local consignment shop, it’s important to know what items sell, and which ones do not.

~Best sellers

Upholstered items
Such as sofas, sectionals, sleeper sofas and comfortable chairs

Leather furniture
Such as leather sofas and chairs

Wooden furniture
Such as wooden dressers and bookshelves

Dining sets
Dining tables and chairs, especially contemporary ones, typically sell very well

Buffet tables

Mid-century modern furniture

Inexpensive, un-framed modern art
Such as large modern pieces on canvas

Contemporary lamps
Such as newer lamp styles with shades in good condition

Unique items
Including vintage pieces and garden tables

Accessories
The more interesting, the better

~Items that do not sell well

TV armoires

Rugs

Brass items

Figurines

China

If you want to guarantee that your items sell quickly, and for top dollar they must be cleaned well before you take them to a consignment shop. This step alone can boost an item’s price by as much as 25%. It’s also important to repair any broken hardware and touch up any scratches or dings. In order for the shop to set a fair price for your items you will want to gather as much information about them as you can. Helpful information includes when it was made and whether it is an original piece or a replica.

Embracing Consignment

Embracing Consignment

The recent downturn of the economy has left most people looking for creative ways to stretch their money. The good news is that you can still purchase quality high-end items on a budget when you shop consignment.

A consignment shop is a store that sells gently used merchandise at a discounted rate. However, consignment stores shouldn’t be confused with thrift stores. Thrift stores sell donated items with nothing given back to the person who donates. Consignment stores actually split their profits with the people that provide the items that they sell. While the items at consignment shops are second hand, they are usually in much better condition than what you would find at a thrift store. In fact most consignment shops will only accept items that are in very good to excellent condition.

Consignment shops offer a variety of different items. Because everything is priced so reasonably, you are able to get a lot more for your money. When you shop consignment you might be able to find everything from antiques and collectibles to modern art.

If you would like to get even more out of your money, you should consider selling your gently used items to your favorite consignment shop. This is an excellent way to get rid of your unwanted things and make a little extra money at the same time. Make sure that the items you wish to sell are clean, free from tears and in good condition. Shopping consignment is an excellent way to save money and make money at the same time.

How to Get the Most out of Consignment Shopping

How to Get the Most out of Consignment Shopping

Experienced consignment shoppers know how to get the most out of their shopping experience. Let’s take a closer look at the top tips for shopping consignment:

Make a list of the things that you would love to own
This will keep you focused and on track.

Have a realistic idea of what you would like to pay
While buying second-hand is typically cheaper than buying brand new, brand name items still sell for a premium even when pre-owned.

Pay attention to the condition of items
Minor issues such as pilling, loose seams and superficial dirt can easily be fixed at home. More substantial repairs can be done by a professional, however these repairs can be expensive especially on items made from leather.

Take your time
Don’t expect to find what you want immediately. Take your time and check back often. Consignment shops receive new items all the time. Part of the thrill of consignment shopping is the hunt. Remember, good things come to those who wait.

Enjoy the chase
As mentioned above, it can take a little while to find exactly what you want. However once you find your first piece, you’ll be hooked.

Shopping consignment has many benefits for the consumer, the seller and the earth. Shopping second hand is not only exciting but it also reduces waste. Consider stopping by your local consignment shop today to see what’s new, and don’t forget to check back often. You can find a variety of items from antiques to collectibles and name brand clothing. You never know what type of treasure is waiting to be found and enjoyed!

Professional Grooming Isn’t Just For Dogs

August 5, 2015 By //  by cnpadmin

Professional Grooming Isn’t Just For Dogs

Most people believe that cats groom themselves. However, what cats actually do is frequently lick themselves. This deposits dander filled saliva on the cat and causes them to ingest loose hair, dust and debris. This type of “grooming” is very ineffective which is why cats often suffer from matting, hairballs, dandruff and a variety of other issues. Regular professional grooming can significantly reduce the incidence of these problems.

Matting occurs when loose, shedding hair mixes with grease, dirt and debris to form a tangle on a cat’s coat. As more hair sheds underneath the tangle it becomes bigger. Regular, professional grooming interrupts this cycle and allows the cat to live mat free.

Hairballs are the result of large amounts of hair being ingested when a cat attempts to lick itself clean. Regular bathing and blow drying removes any loose hair so that the cat does not ingest it.

Dandruff appears when dead skin cells are shed. Regular bathing is necessary to eliminate dandruff as well as a variety of other skin conditions.

Unfortunately, fleas are a part of living with cats. Professional grooming is your first defense against fleas along with medicated flea treatments. It is extremely important to exercise vigilant flea control in order to avoid a massive infestation.

Shedding is another concern for most cat owners. A good bath, blow dry and shedding treatment can put an end to this common problem.

Cats are not equipped to remove tangles or mats, take care of their own dandruff and skin issues, eliminate fleas from their coats or clip the sharp points off their claws. Professional cat grooming is the only solution. Regular professional grooming ensures a healthy cat and a happy pet parent.

Claws N Paws Day Spa has been offering quality pet grooming services for Orange County’s dogs and cats since 2001. For the convenience of our clients we now offer the same professional grooming services from our fully mobile pet grooming van. Be sure to book your mobile grooming appointments well in advance. Why Everyone Can Benefit from Consignment Shopping

Why Everyone Can Benefit from Consignment Shopping

Shopping consignment offers many unique benefits. Consignment shopping makes it possible to own quality, name brand items for a fraction of the cost. Let’s take a closer look at why everyone can benefit from consignment shopping.

Saves you money

While it would be wonderful to only purchase name brand items, most of us cannot afford to live like that. However, when you shop consignment you can purchase these items at greatly reduced prices, helping you stay within your shopping budget.

Eco-friendly

Whenever you shop second hand you are helping the environment. The items that you purchase from a consignment shop would have otherwise ended up in our landfill.

Better value

Because the items in a consignment shop are significantly reduced you are able to purchase much more for your money.

Better selection

One benefit of shopping in a consignment store is that you are surrounded by a multitude of different things in one location. This saves you the hassle of having to visit several stores to find what you need.

Helps you create your own style

At a traditional department store or boutique you are limited to what’s popular at the time. At a consignment shop you have literally years of styles to choose from. This allows you to create a look that is purely your own.

New merchandise added frequently

Since people bring in consignment items regularly there is always something new each time you shop.

Great customer service

Typically the owners of consignment shops are friendly and eager to help. They understand their merchandise and go above and beyond to make sure that you find exactly what you want.

Summer Safety – Dogs In Cars

July 29, 2015 By //  by cnpadmin

Summer Safety – Dogs In Cars

As the temperatures in Southern California continue to rise it’s important to keep our pets safe. This includes never leaving your dog in a parked car, even for just a few minutes. A car parked in the shade or in the direct sunlight on a warm day can quickly reach dangerous temperatures. It doesn’t take very long at all for a dog to succumb to heatstroke or worse. Sadly, thousands of dogs die every year from being left in hot cars.

If you see a dog trapped in a parked car this summer there are several things that you can do to help. For example, if you know the owner, you can gently let them know that their pet is hot. Most of the time people are unaware of the dangers of leaving their pet unattended in a hot car and this is a great way to begin that conversation with them.

If you see a dog alone in a parked car and you do not know who it belongs to, try speaking with the establishment’s store manager or customer service department. Most of the time they are eager to help you locate the dog’s owner or contact animal control for you. If this is not an option, you can call your local animal control or the police for assistance. Remember that every minute counts when a pet is locked in a hot car.

Bystanders are often the eyes and ears to aid in the prevention of animal abuse and neglect. Getting involved makes a huge difference, especially for those that do not have a voice of their own. If you are uncomfortable reporting a problem, please find assistance from a store manager, animal control, the police, friends or family members.

If you take your pet with you this summer, at some point you might need to stop to run some errands. Whenever possible have a family member stay in the car with your dog with the air conditioner running. If you are alone, you will need to find pet-friendly stores or use drive-ups.

We hope this information has been helpful as we strive to provide education on all aspects of pet care.

Claws N Paws Day Spa offers quality dog and cat grooming in Orange County, California. For more information, or to schedule a grooming appointment, please call 714-962-1005.
