Why Everyone Can Benefit from Consignment Shopping

July 31, 2015 By //  by cnpadmin

Why Everyone Can Benefit from Consignment Shopping

Shopping consignment offers many unique benefits. Consignment shopping makes it possible to own quality, name brand items for a fraction of the cost. Let’s take a closer look at why everyone can benefit from consignment shopping.

Saves you money

While it would be wonderful to only purchase name brand items, most of us cannot afford to live like that. However, when you shop consignment you can purchase these items at greatly reduced prices, helping you stay within your shopping budget.

Eco-friendly

Whenever you shop second hand you are helping the environment. The items that you purchase from a consignment shop would have otherwise ended up in our landfill.

Better value

Because the items in a consignment shop are significantly reduced you are able to purchase much more for your money.

Better selection

One benefit of shopping in a consignment store is that you are surrounded by a multitude of different things in one location. This saves you the hassle of having to visit several stores to find what you need.

Helps you create your own style

At a traditional department store or boutique you are limited to what’s popular at the time. At a consignment shop you have literally years of styles to choose from. This allows you to create a look that is purely your own.

New merchandise added frequently

Since people bring in consignment items regularly there is always something new each time you shop.

Great customer service

Typically the owners of consignment shops are friendly and eager to help. They understand their merchandise and go above and beyond to make sure that you find exactly what you want.

Summer Safety – Dogs In Cars

July 29, 2015 By //  by cnpadmin

Summer Safety – Dogs In Cars

As the temperatures in Southern California continue to rise it’s important to keep our pets safe. This includes never leaving your dog in a parked car, even for just a few minutes. A car parked in the shade or in the direct sunlight on a warm day can quickly reach dangerous temperatures. It doesn’t take very long at all for a dog to succumb to heatstroke or worse. Sadly, thousands of dogs die every year from being left in hot cars.

If you see a dog trapped in a parked car this summer there are several things that you can do to help. For example, if you know the owner, you can gently let them know that their pet is hot. Most of the time people are unaware of the dangers of leaving their pet unattended in a hot car and this is a great way to begin that conversation with them.

If you see a dog alone in a parked car and you do not know who it belongs to, try speaking with the establishment’s store manager or customer service department. Most of the time they are eager to help you locate the dog’s owner or contact animal control for you. If this is not an option, you can call your local animal control or the police for assistance. Remember that every minute counts when a pet is locked in a hot car.

Bystanders are often the eyes and ears to aid in the prevention of animal abuse and neglect. Getting involved makes a huge difference, especially for those that do not have a voice of their own. If you are uncomfortable reporting a problem, please find assistance from a store manager, animal control, the police, friends or family members.

If you take your pet with you this summer, at some point you might need to stop to run some errands. Whenever possible have a family member stay in the car with your dog with the air conditioner running. If you are alone, you will need to find pet-friendly stores or use drive-ups.

We hope this information has been helpful as we strive to provide education on all aspects of pet care.

Top Ten Reasons to Shop Second Hand

There are many reasons to shop second hand. Let’s take a closer look at the top ten!

  1. Recycling
Recycling is good for the environment. When you shop consignment you are recycling someone’s gently used goods. When you sell your gently used goods to a consignment shop you are helping keep those items out of our already too full landfills.
  2. Selection
The variety of items that you can find at a consignment shop far exceeds that of a traditional retail store.
  3. Self-Expression
Because of the unique selection at a consignment shop, you are able to create a look that fits your own unique style and personality.
  4. Convenience
Consignment shops are typically located near residential areas.
  5. Individualized Service
Most consignment shops are locally owned. They provide a warm, inviting atmosphere. If you are looking for something in particular you can usually find someone who is ready and willing to help you. You would be hard pressed to find this type of service at a large retail shop.
  6. Value
Shopping in a consignment shop provides you with a much better price-to-product ratio.
  7. Lower Prices
Most consignment shops offer quality merchandise at lower prices than other retail shops. Many consignment shops also have many items on sale.
  8. Brand Names
Most consignment shops offer brand name products for re-sale.
  9. New Products Added Regularly
Consignment shops often have new items for sale each time you visit.
  10. Exciting Way To Shop
Shopping at a consignment shop allows you to have more fun as you search for the perfect item.

Summer Pet Grooming Guide

July 22, 2015 By //  by cnpadmin

Summer Pet Grooming Guide

Regular grooming is essential all year round, but you might not realize that your pet needs a little more attention during the summer. The following will help your pet look and feel their best this summer.

Keep on brushing!

The wet winter weather can leave your pets coat tangled and dry. Once the weather warms up it’s time to give them a good long brushing. Be careful not to cause any irritation or pain, and never try to brush out mats. Cats and dogs tend to shed more during the summer. Regular brushing can help reduce the amount of fur that ends up all over you and your house. If you have a dog with a longer coat, consider using an undercoat brush to assist with shedding. By brushing your pet’s coat regularly throughout the entire shedding period you can ensure that they don’t ingest too much hair. This is especially beneficial for cats that are prone to pesky hairballs.

Trim their nails

Your pet’s paws take a lot of pounding, especially on hot pavements in the summer. Keep their feet healthy by checking their paws and claws regularly. Inspect for injuries such as splits or cracks in the pads of their feet. Applying a special paw balm can help heal minor injuries. Deep cuts should be seen by a veterinarian. Trim your pet’s nails at least once a month.

Treat for parasites

Parasites love the warmer weather. Check your pet’s skin and coat for fleas and ticks regularly. Ask your groomer about flea treatments at your next grooming appointment.

Bathe your pet

A good bath can help to remove any excess fur that your pet is carrying around. Use a gentle shampoo and be careful not to get any soap in your pet’s eyes. A trip to the groomer during the summer will ensure that your pet is well taken care of.

Remember their ears and teeth

Once your pet is clean and dry, clean their ears and check for ear mites. Consider giving their teeth a good brush, or have your groomer include this service with your pet’s bath.

Claws N Paws Day Spa offers quality grooming services for both dogs and cats in Fountain Valley, California. We also offer mobile pet grooming to all areas of Orange County. For more information, or to schedule a grooming appointment please call 714-962-1005.

Why It’s a Good Idea to Consign Your Gently Used Items

Consignment is good for both you and the environment. For you, it keeps your closets full of only the things that you actually use and love. It simplifies your life and saves you time that would otherwise be spent maintaining your under-appreciated possessions. But perhaps the biggest benefit when you consign your gently used items is that it effectively turns your clutter into cash.

Consignment is basically recycling your gently used items. We all know that recycling is good for the planet. But what you might not realize is exactly how much recycling can help. For example, in Third World countries half of all pesticides are used on cotton fields. When you recycle just one gently used cotton outfit you help to save a full pound of chemical fertilizer and pesticide from ever being released into the soil, water and atmosphere.

Recycling is good for you, your family and your wallet. Recycling keeps your house free from clutter and frees up your time. Besides, it’s much easier to find exactly what you want every time if you don’t have to dig through piles of stuff.

Even though consigning your unloved items probably won’t make you rich, it will provide you with a welcome rebate on past purchases that turned out to be not so perfect. The money earned from consignment can then be used in the consignment shop on something that you really love.

Hot Spots

June 24, 2015 By //  by cnpadmin

Hot Spots

Hot spots on pets are extremely common during the summer. A hot spot is a localized area of skin that is inflamed and infected. The infection can be superficial or deep. Hot spots are also known as moist dermatitis and acute moist dermatitis.

Hot spots are typically caused and made worse by excessive biting, licking and scratching. There are several factors that can initiate this behavior. Common factors include fleas, mites, other external parasites, insect stings or bites, injuries or allergies. Occasionally animals will start a hot spot out of boredom or during periods of stress.

Hallmark signs of a hot spot include redness, oozing, pain and itchiness. Hair loss might also be present. Sometimes hair can become matted over the lesion, obscuring the size or magnitude of the problem. It is extremely common for a pet parent to notice a small area of inflamed skin on their pet in the morning and arrive home hours later to find that the affected area is much larger. This is because pets often become highly agitated and will not leave the area alone. Sometimes the pet might even growl or snap when the area is touched.

The treatment of hot spots varies depending on the severity of the problem. It is extremely important to have all hot spots promptly checked by a veterinarian as the problem can quickly spread and further skin infection can occur. There are a few things you can do at home to help alleviate the pain of hot spots:

  • Shave the area, allowing air to dry the hot spot
  • Cleanse the area with cool water and a mild skin cleanser
  • Apply a cool washcloth to the area two to four times a day
  • Use an E-collar to prevent licking, biting or scratching of the area
  • Follow your veterinarian’s instructions thoroughly when applying topical medications, bathing or administering oral medication

Claws N Paws Day Spa offers dog and cat grooming in Fountain Valley, California. Our experienced groomers understand how uncomfortable hot spots can be for your pet. We can bathe your pet in their prescription shampoo and assist you with your pet’s topical medication. We can also safely remove the hair from around most hot spots.
